Journal 15.2: Getting better

We started practicing the actual forward march today. After a few rounds around the field, our trainer gave us specific positions in files and chose one commander for the group of boys and the group of girls. The boys were positioned behind the group of girls. Once the commander said, “IB DP Year 2 girls/boys, by the left, forward march!”, we began marching with our left foot and right arm in the front. There came the problem because we couldn’t coordinate with each other and most of us ended up dashing on to each other. So, our trainer helped us by repeating the command “left, right, left” in a specific tone and of course with a specific beat.
Then, it seemed more organized and all of us maintained our positions in our respective files with improved coordination.  As we continued marching, our trainer prompted us to keep our head straight and up with pride. He also kept telling us to keep our arms as stiff as possible. All of us worked on those few things as we progressed.

Journal 15.1 : First day under the sun

Today, we began practicing for the march past that we will be performing on republic day, the 26th of January for the toppers of the 2016 IB november board examinations. It is going to be a grand way of honouring our own seniors for bringing pride to the entire student community and the faculty of our school.
Of course, it was quite difficult to march for a couple of hours continuously under the scorching hot sun. We focused on marching on spot, today. Since it was the first time I learnt how to march in the formal and appropriate way, it was challenging to coordinate my arm movement with that of my legs. Either I marched too fast, or my arms would swung too slow. However, there was an improvement in the syncronization between both movements towards the final practice today.
Needless to say, I did have some body pain after the practice, yet i felt quite energetic and confident deep inside. I felt the confidence because I was able to march with pride and without any hesitation, although I did make a few mistakes in the beginning.

Journal 9.13

We entered the advanced level for the some of the old postures that we've been doing from the first day. I had to place my palm on the floor instead of just just touching the floor. It was hard at the beginning. Later, it turned out to be easy. I also learned how to keep the breathing consistent through out the exercises this week.

Journal 16.1 : New beginning

Image result for south indian model united nationsIt’s high time we start getting our hands on work, into this project to begin SIMUN – South Indian Model United Nations, an MUN that will bring in talents in students across India and those from other countries as well! I have participated in a couple of MUNs and also trained students for MUNs, but this is the very first time I’m part of the directors team as the Director of Committees, in hosting a MUN at our school! My team and I, we’ve put down our ideas into agendas and have started our registrations. With tons of support from the president of SIMUN – Mr. Rolf Swaminathan, we were able to step into this challenging project.
The tech people of our team took care of the construction of our official website: www.simunglobal.org
In the past few months, we first figured out a name for our MUN and a logo, and created a rough list of the events and committees. In fact, we allotted the positions of the vice chairs to our friends who attended the MUNs with us. The president and our IB DP coordinator helped us find experienced people for the chair person in each committee.

Journal 5.11: Bringing our plants back 'home'!

We're finally back from the winter break. First thing today morning, we went to the front gate and picked up all our plants and put them back in the cabins. Most of them were healthy and some had withering brown leaves. But they were still in good condition. We added the organic fertilizer to all the plants and put them some of them on the automated water system that one of my friends made for our plants. He's working on expanding the system so that all the plants can be watered regularly by this system.
The 'Go pachai' team is taking good care of their plants. In fact, their peace lily plants bloomed into beautiful white flowers before our plants did. We are proud to have expanded our club to the Primany year program students as well.
